Friday Favorites: Sun, Granola, and Equality

Olympia Waterfront

It has been sunny for three days in a row. It’s kind of amazing for February. I went for a run around Capitol Lake yesterday and had a winter picnic the day before that. It is getting me excited for spring but I know, even without Puxatawney Phil, that winter will return in all her rainy and cold glory. Today I have a few links to things I’m particularity taken with and want to share with you. Some food things, some life things, and some just fun.

  • I have a thing for granola, Mom has her own recipe that was a household staple growing up and while the store-bought versions were a passable hold-over while I was in college, I have since started making my own. I have a couple of recipes that I rotate through, and this week I tried another one. This one comes by way of Molly Wizenberg and might be my new favorite. It’s a little bit salty, a little bit sweet, which means it’s just plain yummy. Olive Oil and Maple Granola
  • I’m really excited to make Valentines this year. I’ve been gathering ideas from around the internet and adding them to my Pinterest board. You can check my inspirations out here.
  • It’s been a big week in Washington state for marriage equality. The State Senate voted to approve a bill that extends the rights of marriage to gay and lesbian couples. The bill now moves to the House, which is expected to vote next week. It is entirely likely that Washington LGBTQ couples will have full marriage rights by Valentines Day! I was at the Capitol as the vote was taking place and it was amazing to be surrounded by so much love. You can read other accounts here, here, and here. I’m excited to be back at the Capitol next week to witness the House follow suit.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I’m off to enjoy the sun while it’s around!
